My Grandparent's life on Jaluit

I met my grandparents when I was 9 years old. I heard from my mom that I didn’t get to meet them when I was baby because they were away living in Hawaii when I was born. My grandfather is a priest of a protestant church here in the Marshall Islands in one of its outer islands called Jaluit. My grandparents grew up being part of the church. They have been to most of the outer islands. They sent them there to attend and lead the people of the church for a year. After a year the board members of the church assigned them to another island.

Although my grandfather is old, he looks much younger then the other priests in the church. He is a healthy old man and very active. He does not miss a day working in their backyard growing all kind foods in their garden. He fixes broken things at their place. He goes to fish sometimes. My grandmother’s job is to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner. They are hard workers, well known and loved by many people.

The good thing about being around my grandparents is they always spoiled us and gave my siblings and me money to buy ice cream. Our parents would scold us telling us not to ask for money from our grandparents. It’s fun having my grandparents around us. I hope for one day to go visit them in the near future.
